Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 5.05

This is the 106th posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another super edition of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 5.05.  Silver and Purple/Pink/White played the first contest of the season this week.  Unfortunately for Silver, a few trends seem to be forming as they took the loss.  The first trend is that of a rotating netminder.  Silver has had three different tenders in the first four games of the season.  This inconsistency between the pipes clearly has led to poor play in front of the crease.  Silver is unsure from game to game if their goalie has a good glove or if the blocker is the stronger side.  Does the goalie like to play the puck or stay away from it?  Does he control his rebounds, or do we need all hands on deck to clear the puck because it will likely be laying there like a rubber pizza waiting to be shoveled in by an opposing team's garbage man?  These are the questions that need answering.

Another trend is the continuing recruitment of new talent by seemingly anyone but the GM.  Maybe it will come in handy during the dog days of the season when injuries or more male cheerleading contests come up.

The third and most obvious trend is the losing and lack of offensive output.  Seemingly, the first two trends are the sole factors contributing to the losing trend, but several other factors are also at play.  For example, Paul Bednarz, a bruising veteran forward with a rifle wrister, was all set to sacrifice a live chicken in the dressing room in an effort to appease Jobu and hopefully drum up some scoring power.  The bird luckily did not make it through the security screening when entering the rink.  Jobu was instead offered a cigar and rum - he was not pleased.

The PLARSHMT & OBMASLF are not awarded in losses.  They are ONLY FOR WINNERS.  Despite the loss, Alex Cooper worked his tail off in all facets of the game to win the Faceoff Chain in back-to-back games.  This still does not make up for his previous absence and the team stated that his fine is still outstanding and starting to accrue interest.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 5.04

This is the 105th posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another super edition of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 5.04.  Silver and Gold played the first PRECIOUS METALS game of the young season last Monday.  Silver team left the ice wishing they hadn't shown up (score sheet indicates they didn't) - or that at least maybe Gold had to forfeit.  Gold scored early and often, removing any hope of the first Silver victory (against Gold) since that fateful night in March 2020.

Silver was coming off bittersweet games against Red and the perennial powerhouse Black.  On one hand, they were feeling confident with the late-stage comeback to force a shootout versus Red while having a chance to steal a win late in the game versus Black, which felt kind of sweet!  On the other hand, both games resulted in taking Ls, making them both quite bitter pills to swallow.  As the saying goes, what does not kill you only makes you stronger and the Silver team will use these experiences to put together a winning strategy as the season continues.  If not, hearing the Gold team chanting, "IT'S NOT WORTH WINNING IF YOU CAN'T WIN BIG!!" from their dressing room will certainly do the trick in the future.  I mean, seriously, what a bunch of pathetic losers!

The PLARSHMT & OBMASLF are not awarded in losses.  They are ONLY FOR WINNERS.  Despite the loss, Alex Cooper worked his tail off in all facets of the game to win the Faceoff Chain.  This nearly makes up for his previous absence and the team stated that his fine was only partially paid as of last Monday.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 5.03

This is the 104th posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another PRECIOUS METALS edition of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 5.03.  Silver showed what Thursday hockey in the BPHL is going to look like this season and it was not pretty.  Historically, Silver has handled the under skilled Red team, even when numbers have been low on the Silver bench.

Silver had trouble keeping pace with the stacked Red menace, trailing most of the game.  Silver was down 3 - 5 as the end of regulation approached.  Then, as they have many times in past, Silver dug deep and found the will to fight back and tie the game, sending the contest to a shootout.  Unfortunately, the heroics ended there as Silver fell in the shootout.

The PLARSHMT & OBMASLF are not awarded in losses.  They are ONLY FOR WINNERS.  Alex Cooper forfeited his chance to win the Faceoff Chain in consecutive games by abandoning his team to watch a high school male cheerleading competition.  The word out of the dressing room is that a heavy fine has been issued to "Coop."

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 5.02

This is the 103rd posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another SICK edition of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 5.02.  Silver opened up the season this week against the hated rival Black team.  If you happened to catch the season preview article, you'll know that Silver has a brand new look from top to bottom.  Not all the new talent made their Silver debut in the season opener.

Silver fell behind early with the Black team scoring at a medium pace.  The lead was cut down with a flourish of scoring by a lone Silver STAR, including a goal with two seconds left in the period.  Energized with such a great effort, Silver pulled to within one goal before falling by a score of 7 - 9.  Silver easily covered the spread and hit the over with a subbing Matthew Slattery of Slattery Design in net.

The PLARSHMT & OBMASLF are virtually being awarded RIGHT NOW to Adam Collette who scored the only three goals of the first period for Silver.  He might have even scored a few more, but since no one usually gets to three goals (let alone in one period versus Black), we usually stop counting there.  Although there were only two faceoff wins on the night, the Faceoff Chain is virtually awarded to Coop - clearly Silver needs to make this a point of emphasis in practice over the next few weeks.  Congratulations to to Collette and the other stars - two rookies to the Silver team - each getting on the scoresheet.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 5.01

This is the 102nd posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another SEASON PREVIEW edition of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 5.01.  Despite the extremely successful finish to the 2021-22 season, there were some MAJOR changes to the Silver ownership, front office, and projected roster for the upcoming campaign.

Team owner - Jim DeRouchey, has sold the team and is heading off into the sunset and early retirement.  The new owner is simply known around the league as the "Natty Daddy."  Jeff Evans has also relinquished his GM role and will contribute solely as a lock down D-man from this point forward.  This means the Natty Daddy is dual-hatted as Owner/GM.  If Jerry Jones can do it, anyone can.

This season also marks the first after the retirement of long time goaltender Griff Watson.  Farewell and good luck Griff!  Thanks for all your dedication and hard work throughout your Silver career.  The other part-time goaltender, A-A-Ron Martens, has also stepped back to a substitute role on this year's Silver team.  Who will play in net for the Silver team this year?  That's a question to which we may never know the answer except on a night by night basis.  Early sources have identified one Tyler Grosche as the expected starter - more to come on this story as it develops.

There are some new faces that will be playing in front of the new goaltender as well, including Wyatt, Mikey Smellie, Branden Maas, and Wes Schook.  Silver fans are hoping these four increase the average skill level, speed, and attendance of the team while at the same time decreasing the average age.

The PLARSHMT & OBMASLF (and Faceoff Chain) are waiting to be awarded to the players of the game.  Only those of pure heart and determination will be able to earn these esteemed awards.

Silver is back in action on Monday, 10 October at RALSTON Arena at 8:15 PM.  Silver will take on the hated Black team which they have beaten one time since Black was acquired by Tactical 88 just a few short seasons ago.  Tonight, we are honored to celebrate Columbus Day at the rink and to do so we are giving away free blankets with a purchase of a ticket and a large pizza.  The weather has turned cold and you'll be able to stay snug as a bug in a silver rug with this fantastic prize!  Come on down to the Ralston Arena, bring the kids!  We've got entertainment for the whole family.
