Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 3.45

This is the 97th posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another PLAYOFF article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 3.45.  Silver and White finished off the regular season with a tight game, the second in as many contests between the two teams.  There were a flurry of goals scored without much defense being played.  The contest ended in another deadlock (7 - 7), but did go to a shootout this time with White prevailing.  One can only wonder what may have happened if Silver team star Jeff Harris did not have his skates sabotaged by one of the White team members (probably) before the game.  Harris was hitting the deck so quickly, it had the teams looking in the rafters for the sniper.  Hopefully his skates are back to normal, after taking them to the team equipment manager at Scheels.

Although the Silver team focus was on the game at hand, the front office was clearly looking ahead to the first round of the playoffs - resting several key players in anticipation of a deep playoff run (for one).

The PLARSHMT & OBMASLF (and Faceoff Chain) may have also been stolen by the White team when they were pulling off their sabotage.

Silver is back in action Thursday, 22 April at RALSTON Arena at 7:00 PM.  Silver and Teal meet in the first round of the post-season.  Both teams will be extra hungry with the season on the line.  Speaking for the hockey community and the fans, one can only hope the game is called fairly.  Silver has had a long-standing issue with the BPHL league office regarding a huge bias against their team, amassing an astronomically large number (667 - to be exact) of disallowed goals.  All any team has to do is pull the puck out of the net before the official comes into the zone while affirming that it was not a goal, which gives that team about 39 seconds to do so.  The burden of proof for other teams scoring goals against Silver is essentially the complete opposite - if it even comes close to crossing the line, it will likely be scored as a goal - even if time has expired in the period.  This will be a key discussion item in the offseason talks between the league and the BPHLPA.  As for the game tonight, will Teal win their first of the calendar year or will Silver continue their dominance of Teal that spans two seasons?  There is only one way to find out.  Come on down to the Ralston Arena, bring the kids!  We've got entertainment for the whole family.

This is the 96th posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another blowout article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 3.44.  Silver and Black finished the regular season series last Monday.  Black remained undefeated against Silver, winning by a score of 11 - 4.  Black made sure to pump in 6 goals in the last 3 minutes in an attempt to get free Runza.  One may have thought that Black would rest up their star players ahead of the playoffs - trying to get healthy, but management decided it was a much better idea to destroy their opponent and get them extremely motivated to win in the postseason.

The PLARSHMT & OBMASLF (and Faceoff Chain) were unawarded in the loss.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 3.43

This is the 95th posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another wonderfully officiated article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 3.43.  Silver and White finished up the second of their final three games of regular season play last Thursday, skating to a 2 -2 tie.  Due to an error in the scoring of the game, the league website is incorrect.  There is no expectation of a recount of the score, the people in charge have decided that it will not affect the overall standings, so there is no reason to perform the exercise.

Silver fought White the entire game, but still trailed 0 - 2 with just under 2 minutes to play in regulation.  After gaining control and entering the offensive zone, Silver made the call for goaltender Martens to head to the bench.  With the extra attacker, Silver controlled the play brilliantly before getting a tipped shot from the point to find the net for the first Silver tally of the evening.  Martens returned to the net for the center ice draw and again skated to the bench once Silver rushed into the White zone.  A few slick passes later, Silver went backdoor one-T to tie the game, leaving White in an absolute tailspin.  With about one minute remaining, Silver was now eyeing a win in regulation after what seemed like a certain loss.  It was not to be, as both teams had a few chances but eventually tied and decided to forgo the shootout, due to time constraints - also the Head BPHL Official suffered apparent injuries to both his eyes and ears, preventing him from being able to call goals accurately.

The PLARSHMT & OBMASLF (and Faceoff Chain) were awarded to the BPHL Head Official for an outstanding and unforgettable performance, despite the injuries that Hockey News! has just learned have been plaguing him the entire season.  Both goalies also were stars in their own right, but since neither of them won the game, the number one star is CLEAR.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another Masters Week article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 3.42.  Silver and Teal faced off for the last regular season battle.  Silver again was victorious by a score of 11 - 3.  Bednarz was there to put the exclamation point on the W, scoring twice in the final minute.  This also extended his goal scoring streak to a record-high, three games.  The win also put Silver over the 7.5 mark for wins in their final 17 games and pushed their overall record back to .500.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 3.41

This is the 93rd posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another PRECIOUS METALS EDITION article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 3.41.  Silver and Gold battled for the 9th and final regular season PRECIOUS METALS game last Thursday night at the War Memorial.  Silver was a bit light on the roster due to several issues ranging from staffing problems at the local pizzeria or not being able to read a website (or blog post) to taking vacations in the middle of a competitive season.

Silver gave their best effort with the six skaters they had against a fully loaded Gold roster, but in the end, the fatigue is what finished their chance to win.  Silver hung in the game for all of two periods, holding the lead at two different points before giving up seven straight goals in the third period to fall by a final of 9 - 15.

The PLARSHMT & OBMASLF (and Faceoff Chain) were unawarded after the loss.

Silver is back in action Monday, 05 April at RALSTON Arena at 8:15 PM.  Silver and Teal meet up for the final regular season tilt with a lot riding on the game - mainly the Silver team's unbeaten streak against Teal (lifetime) and the current 21-game losing streak for Teal.  Silver team is also looking to lock in 3rd place in the standings sitting at a record of 18-19-2 with 38 points.  They lead White by 7 points with 4 games to play.  My high school math tells me that a single win would put Silver 1 point above White's possible total, should they sweep the last 4 games.  Coincidentally, it will also hit the prop bet over 7.5 wins in Silver's the last 17 games of the season, if you took that action.  Come on down to the Ralston Arena, bring the kids!  We've got entertainment for the whole family.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another foolhardy article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 3.40.  Silver and White got together for the first of their three final contests in the regular season this past Monday.  Silver had a full lineup of three lines and they were bangin' from the start.  It was three - rip within the first three minutes, but White did not give in getting the game back to 3 - 2 before Silver opened the flood gates.  The final score finished at 9 - 2.
