Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 4

Fourth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition.  Silver team brought their two game super hot winning streak into action last Thursday against the undefeated Black "SUPER" team.  Given the circumstances, the billing lived up to they hype - an unstoppable force versus an immovable object.

Silver team started off slow - to try and lull Black into a false sense of security.  It was nearly working as Black skated to a quick 4-0 lead.  Several unlucky bounces and at least two posts kept Silver off the scoreboard as the game progressed into the second period.  The Silver goaltender, A-A-Ron Martens had some colorful language for the Black bench as he changed ends.  This reporter can only speculate as to what was said, but it may have sounded something like, "...pink hearts, orange stars, yellow moons, green clovers, and blue diamonds are all the original marshmallows from Lucky Charms."

Silver broke through in the third with a goal or two to keep the pressure on Black - they won't let up without a solid, three-touchdown lead.  The wile veteran James D got in on the action with a beaut of a goal set up from Paulie B.  This turned out to be a pivotal goal as it helped keep the differential at 10 goals after a very late goal from Black pushed the total past the over (13-3) - disappointing a lot of degenerates out there.  Some say it was an extremely bad beat as all Black team had to do was run out the clock instead of go balls out for a full 48 minutes.

Three stars of the game go to
1) Jeff Hoggan
2) Jeff Hoggan
3) Jeff Hoggan

Silver is back in action this Thursday, 28 February 2019 at 7:15 PM CT versus White at Ralston Arena.  Notable healthy scratches already on the books - Mitch "4" Staiger and Dustin "Dangle Gangle" Gangelhoff.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 3

Third posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings Hockey Fans!  Welcome to yet another fantastic edition of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition, the hottest hockey news that you cannot live without!  Let's jump right into action and recap the latest game from Silver versus Red in the 3rd game of the triple header at Ralston Arena on Monday night.

I hope you didn't bet the mortgage money on the over like Bednarz did in the Precious Metals Game last week because you might find yourself out on the street or breaking legs for the Omaha Mafia to make up some rent money.  New Mitch clearly had the over - he got to work even before the game ended, knowing his over bet was sunk.  Who would have thought that RT Maher was in deep with the Rotella Crime Family despite his cushy job as the CFO of Woodmen?  This might be a case of mistaken identity as there is another Maher that is much more befitting as a degenerate gambler in deep with the mob.  Tough break RT, literally.

The game was close from the start, even though Red had opened up a 1-0 lead before Gangelhoff was on the bench (approximate first goal at 0:35 of the first period).  Eventually it was 2-0 before Silver fought back with a pair of goals from 4 and BAH-LOCK-EH (maybe).  Red took advantage of some shoddy refereeing and had 3 power plays (1/3), several missed offside calls, and one gigantic missed too many men penalty call that cost Silver an excellent scoring chance on what would have been a stellar power play (PP2 would get the goal with 20 seconds left (G-DeRouchey, A-Evans, A-Watson).  Wishful thinking aside, Charbuff didn't manage to completely fist Silver team and they ended up knotting the game at either 4-4 late in the third, eventually forcing a shootout.

Red went first and scored a la Kucherov (minus the intent).  Silver answered with a miss from 4.  Red then used up their fastest, most talented player Will Martin (this reporter refers to him as a dead ringer for the zombie creatures in I Am Legend starring Will Smith and Will Martin).  Griffith Watson made a great save to redeem himself on the Kucherov.  Paulie B got Silver on the board starting out wide right before coming in to snipe top glove on Slattery.  Red's third player also lost the puck on his shot, but this time it stayed out of the net.  New Mitch (probably the most excited anyone has ever been to take a penalty shot) finished off the victory for Silver making a sick move and burying it glove side on Slattery.

The win takes Silver to a two game streak and moves their record up to 5-15.  With 17 more games on the schedule, Silver team is heating up.  As long as Silver doesn't reach 1,763 degrees F, they'll be just fine.  Silver team is next in action against Black on Thursday, 21 February 2019 at 8:30 PM at Ralston Arena.  Come on out, we've got entertainment for the WHOLE FAMILY! Good seats are still available.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2

Second posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings Hockey fans!  Can you believe it's already volume 2 of the Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition?  I'm sure you can't, but it's happening anyway.  Silver team looked to bounce back after the tough loss suffered to Gold on Monday.  Lucky for them, the team they faced next was clinging to a 1-16-1 record.

Silver team was feeling a bit grim in the dressing room during pre-game as they only had 5 skaters suiting up with little time left before warm-ups.  Luckily, BAH-LOCK-EH and Robbie joined them just before puck drop and they managed to convince some Black team players to join them.  They must not have been satisfied after their freshly finished ROUT of Red team 12-3.  They were just getting the taste for blood, and Purple team was the main course!

Silver quickly took the lead, but Purple team bore down and eventually took the lead!  It may even have been a two goal lead at some point (largest lead of the season - sources).  Silver team hardly panicked and easily poured in a few more goals to regain the lead for good.  Our Black team helpers even skipped the third period and left Silver to lock in the win on their own merits.  Silver didn't disappoint and they remain undefeated*.  They look to make a winning stream on Monday against Red at 10 PM.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 1

New feature of this blog - posting news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings Hockey fans!  Coming at you as fast and furious as Tom Schaffer trying to chase down Harris on a breakaway, it's the first Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition.  Silver took on Gold in the Battle of superior metal on Monday and the game started off quickly in favor of Silver, netting a 2-0 lead.  Gold quickly answered back to tie and eventually take the lead.

Silver responded in kind by tying and regaining the lead themselves and held a 6-4 advantage at the first intermission.  The goal scoring pace posed an immediate threat to the Over/Under total of 23.5.  The under bettors breathed a sigh of relief as the 2nd period scoring pace brought the total to 17.  Meanwhile, Gold had also shown some life.  Led by the feisty Frenchmen, David "Frog Pussy" Brisson, Gold took a 10-7 lead into the 3rd.

Gold held on for a victory with Silver never mounting much of a comeback.  The lead was always at least 3 goals and the final official score was 16-12 to Au.  Some speculation was noted when a nameless source was certain that Silver was given a phantom goal and the scorekeeper, Flame-ON, didn't count some of Gold's goals.  These points were highly contested during the post-game celebration at "Winners."  Silver was the only team there despite their role in the game outcome.  "Winning" may have a slightly different definition for that team.  The crane machine was still empty from the prior Thursday when Jeff "KETO" Evans emptied it out in preparation for Valentine's Day.

Silver looks to bounce back with a win tonight against Purple.  That's 9:45 at the Ralston Arena.  Good seats are still available.  Big Country will be in attendance because he desperately wants to join the roster and his wife lives in Oklahoma.
