Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 4.03

This is the 101st posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to a long time coming edition of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 4.03.  If you have been following the BPHL season and are wondering where the bi-weekly articles have gone, you should already know that nothing out of the ordinary has happened this season.

Black has tried way too hard and won all their games.  Gold has tried way too hard and won most of their games (except when playing Black).  White has smoked a ton of pot in the dressing room and tried only just enough to keep games close and win most of their games.  Silver has drunk cold cruisers in the dressing room and has given the proper amount of effort for beer league hockey and lost most of their games (except when playing Red).  Red has lost nearly all of their games and will be the next team to quit the league and will likely be followed by Silver, leaving the league to exist as a UNO Mav reunion mixed with pot head drop outs.  There have been a few scraps, a ton of lopsided games, a few disallowed goals against Silver, a few sessions at Winner$, and very low fan attendance.

All in all, it has been as normal of a BPHL season as possible, UNTIL NOW.  Silver and Black clashed in yesterday's nightcap for their 8th matchup of the season.  The teams played tight with the largest deficit being only two goals.  Just when it looked like the normal script was about to unfold, Silver tied the game at five and never looked back, netting three more goals in front of some unusually solid defense and goaltending.

Frustrations began to boil over for Black as they increased the pace late in the third.  Black forward Greg Gallon and veteran Silver defenseman Jeff Evans got into a wrestling match in front of the net simply because Evans refused to let Gallon camp there.  Silver goaltender Aaron Martens joined in the act, giving Gallon a few choice words of his own, maybe even a few blockers to the back of the head.  Gallon showed his true black as night colors by taking a cheap shot while the BPHL head official was not looking, dumping Evans with a vicious crosscheck to the back.  Evans (and Silver) had the last laugh winning by a final of 8 - 5 and also added a bar-down half-clapper from the point for his first goal of 2022.

This was the first win for Silver against Black since the team was acquired by Tactical 88 a few seasons ago, although they did skate to a 3 - 4 loss and two 6 - 7 losses earlier this season.

The PLARSHMT & OBMASLF (and Faceoff Chain) were dually awarded to Matt Blaszkiewicz after he netted a hattrick and Aaron Martens for his stellar net play, handing Black their first L of the season.  The NATTY DADDY was on fire throughout the night with a breakaway goal that left Matthew Slattery of Slattery Design in the corner after being deked out of his pads, followed by a slick defense split that ended with a five-hole tuck, and finished off with an empty netter that iced the game with just over a minute remaining.  When asked about this Blasz was quoted as saying, "That was my first hattrick."
