Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2.15

This is the thirty-fourth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another absolutely fabulous article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.15.  Black team gave more than extra effort on the ice last Thursday, barely edging out Silver by a score of 12 - 2.  Clearly the game was not out of reach for Silver as Black felt the need to be floating guys on the far blue line in hopes of getting more breakaways to get that game-icing goal.  No one can fault them on a lack of effort.

At one tense moment in the game (Black was ONLY up 8 - 1), Marlon Bertier was flying around in his team's offensive zone when he was met with slight contact in the lower body, impeding his path.  Bertier immediately started shoving the Silver player up near the face, clearly thinking that, as God's gift to hockey, he shouldn't be touched on the ice.  The Silver player laughed in his face and was heard saying, "If I hit you, trust me you'll know."  Bertier must have left the ice after that because he seemed to be invisible the rest of the game.

On to bonus league coverage as Red battled Teal in the night cap.  Teal had a short bench and was up against it before recruiting two Silver players to help out.  Although it isn't for certain, this seems to have tipped the scales for Teal who routed Red by a score of 12 - 5.  Some say this was the payback for Red using two Gold players against Silver when they already had enough skaters (illegal subs) and ended up beating Silver by a slim margin.  Will the Red team captain learn his lesson or will he set himself up to lose to Teal all season long?  (Teal has 3 wins on the season - all against Red).

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2.14

This is the thirty-third posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another absolutely fabulous article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.14.  Silver shocked the world Monday edging out White by a score of 6 - 4 (with a needless empty netter).  Some goals become more important than others (the O/U was 9.5) and that empty net goal had some people celebrating and others saying, "You've got to be kidding me."  The game finished just in time to be featured on SVP's popular segment, "Bad Beats."

Jumping out to an early lead has paid major dividends this season for Silver and Monday night was no different.  Bagging an early goal to take a 1 - 0 lead, Silver was able to hold off White all night, never falling behind.  The loss could be squarely placed on the usually stellar shoulders of White goalie Quinn White who let in a couple of suspect goals, including the game winner.

It wasn't all puppies and roses though, Silver fought through major adversity, including the potential costly penalty late in the third.  White's Ben Maenner tried to wriggle free from Silver's bruising defenseman, Chris "Don't Tread On Me" Schneider (who hails from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) but was mercilessly hauled down, resulting in a minor penalty for Silver.  Silver had no problem answering the bell and Paul "Go Beavers" Bednarz eventually tallied a selfish, empty net goal with 7 seconds remaining.  Clearly, Paul is behind on meeting the incentive clauses in his contract (50 goals in 36 games earns him an extra double barrel hot dog at Winners).

2) "New" Mitch Killian
3) Chris Schneider

Silver plays their first of another home and home versus Black tonight at RALSTON at 8:30 PM.  After the victory against White on Monday and the impending game versus Black, maybe we'll finally find out if Michael Jackson was telling the truth when he said, "It doesn't matter if you're black or white."

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2.13

This is the thirty-second posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another salacious article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.13.  Silver surprisingly dropped a heart breaker to Red last Monday by a score of 3 - 5.  Despite out-chancing the clearly inferior opponent, goals were hard to come by.

What's that? There was more to the story then just facing some scoring woes.  Red team, this reporter can confirm, was playing with an illegal roster.  Two players from the Gold team were out for sabotage and provided Red with all the offense and puck possession they would need to get the win.  The two extra skaters put Red at ten players, a clear violation of league bylaws.  Therefore, the game was officially forfeited to Silver and the score likely would have been 10 - 0 in favor of Silver had Red team played by the rules.  What a shameful night in league history.

The "loss" drops Silver to 5 - 7 on the season.  The standings are extremely tight in the middle of the pack, so don't lose hope Silver fans, there is plenty of season left.  Chances are excellent that Silver still makes the post-season.

Stars of the Game
1) Satan Nadler (of Gold)
2) Garfield Hoovestol (of Gold)
3) Mat Slattery

Silver plays their second game of the season against White tonight at RALSTON at 10:00 PM.  After opening the BPHL season up against White, Silver has played 10 straight without seeing White come up on the schedule.  Sounds like the league president should focus less energy on his fantasy camp stats and more on creating a normal schedule.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2.12

This is the thirty-first posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another titillating article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.12.  Silver returned to action last Thursday in the second of a home and home against their bitter rival, Gold.  Unfortunately for Silver, it was more of the same from the previous meeting.  Gold slightly edged out Silver by a score of 8 - 2, giving Silver the win where it counts.

Silver played Gold tight again (obvious by the score) and simply couldn't cash in on the scoring chances.  In fact, it was clear that if Billy Wilson wasn't out with the "Silver" flu, the game would have been an easy victory for Silver.  Pizza West correctly made all their orders Thursday and thus Silver team went hungry after the game.  Winners didn't have any hot dogs either, what a downer night - no way to celebrate covering the spread other than enjoying a few barley pops.

The game didn't finish completely without some fireworks as the first and second stars of the game got into a bit of a tilly.  The number one star got the last laugh as he buried a clap-bomb past Slattery as time expired, putting an explanation point on the win (against the spread).  Tensions didn't last long as the two buried the hatchet immediately following the handshake.  I wouldn't be surprised if Alan is going to be Mitch's best man at his upcoming nuptials.

Stars of the Game
1) Mitch Staiger
2) Alan Blankenship
3) Ringo Alfred

Silver plays the former hottest team in the league tonight at RALSTON at 8:45 PM.  After starting 3 - 0, Red has lost 6 of their last 7, a skid that began after meeting Silver for the first time this season way back on November 4th.  Red looks to right the ship, while Silver looks to keep pace with White for 1st place in the league of non-NCAA all-star teams.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2.10 and 2.11

Twenty-ninth and thirtieth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league.  He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.

Greetings hockey fans and welcome to first time every DOUBLE article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.10 and 2.11.  That's what happens when you miss a deadline coming off a holiday weekend.  Silver went 1-1 over their last two games against Teal and Gold.  Can you guess which opponent resulted in which outcome?

There was some mighty fine play displayed in both games.  Can you guess which teams played well?  Silver scored 8 goals in one game and 2 goals in the other.  Can you guess which opponent gave up more goals?  Well, if you guessed Silver beat Gold and lost to Teal, Silver played well against Gold and Teal played well against Silver, and Silver scored 8 against Gold and 2 against Teal, you'd be DEAD WRONG.  However, if you had money on Chris Schneider making a return to the ice, you'd be DEAD RIGHT!  Either way, it looks like you'd be dead.

Teal scored 6 goals on breakaways and may not have registered many other shots, but those other shots were easily handled by the Silver net-minder (clearly his wife told him she had money on the over).  It was touch and go for a minute before Silver took the lead for good.  Credit has to be given to this veteran team for not panicking when Teal put the pressure on.  The third Precious Metals game of the season was tight for 11 minutes with Gold leading by the slimmest of margins at 3-2.  The second period started with Gold leading 5-2 and the inferior metal team never looked back, except to see their "injured reserve" goalie watching from behind the glass.  Perhaps Billy Wilson will get over his Silver FLU for the 4th installment of the PRECIOUS METALS game.

Big thanks to the Pizza West cooks for sucking at their job on the right day.  It turns out pizza tastes good even after a close loss to Gold.  Are these the same photos?
