This is the 110th posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another gnarly edition of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 5.09. Silver and Double Snot Bubbles squared off Monday for their first head to head matchup of 2023.
Silver has had little success against the Bubbles this season, losing all of the previous 3 games by a margin of 10 - 22. That was the 2022 Silver squad. The Bubbles were in for a surprise at the amount of work that can be done in a month, which was the last time they faced the Silver team.
After a scoreless first period, both teams knew that this game was not your typical BPHL bout. Even without the scoring, there was a carnival-like atmosphere in the arena. Despite the score being 0 - 0, there were plenty of offensive chances which came with many fantastic saves.
Silver opened up the scoring, taking a 1 - 0 lead in the second period with a Voss tally. Double Snot Bubbles answered with 2 goals of their own to finish the period, clinging to a 1 goal lead. Silver tied the game 22 seconds into the third period after a soft dump in the corner was misplayed by the Bubble's goalie behind the net, leaving the puck on a SILVER platter for Schulz to scoop up and score with ease. Silver lost a key player starting the 3rd period after Bednarz needed to leave the ice with an apparent LBI. He is considered day-to-day.
The rest of the game was much like the first period with many scoring chances and more acrobatic saves. In the end, Silver was able to bury the game winner with 22 seconds left, after controlling the puck in their offensive end, getting a shot from the point on a screened goalie, finishing with a rebound goal from Voss. A fantastic dressing room celebration was imminent and Silver remains UNDEFEATED in 2023.
On a completely unrelated note, please be sure to register a complaint with the league office for listing Silver team's colors as "grey/black" when they are, in fact, SILVER/black. (matthew.slattery@yahoo.com)
The PLARSHMT & OBMASLF were awarded to Tyler Grosche for his outstanding performance in net and his appreciation of icy cold Busch Lattes. Dustin Gangelhoff took 7 draws to finish the game, cleanly winning all but the 1 Harral threw in the Bubble's defensive corner to win the Faceoff Chain for the first time this season. Puck possession was flipped in the late stages of the 3rd period and certainly was a major factor in Silver bagging the game winner. The current owner of the chain, Alex Cooper, was scratched due to an upper body injury from the previous game. This still does not make up for his previous absence and the team stated that his fine is still outstanding and starting to accrue interest.
