Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another absolutely SEN-SATIONAL article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.4. Silver team came out of the gates hot on Monday night. How hot? Let's just say it was above 1,948°F (1,064°C) because GOLD team started MELTING at the drop of the puck.
With Gold turning soft like a dump in the corner, Silver was up 3-0 through the first period. The increased intensity from Gold was palpable, but still Griff and the Silver D preserved the shutout. Gold got back within a single goal in the 2nd period but that was as close as they would come. Silver fought off the mounting frustrations and buried a few more pucks midway through the third to ice the victory. They even added a couple more (Gold-style) when the game was out of reach to make the victory 10-4 (although the website has it incorrect). If Silver team was like Gold, they'd make the Slattery Design team fix it, but thank the hockey gods they are not.
A couple of younger Gold players thought they were playing for 8th place in the NCHC (like they probably were last season) and started taking out their frustrations on the wrong grizzled veteran, Dustin Gangelhoff. After a few choice words, the young bucks were reminded that all leagues lead the BPHL. At least they have played a "meaningful" hockey game in their careers. That and $5 will get you a latte down at Starbucks.

Silver has the second of the home and home with Gold starting at RALSTON TONIGHT at 9:45 PM. Silver extended its win streak against Gold to two games, which is a franchise record. It'll be interesting to see the crowd turnout on HALLOWEEN night. Free tickets if you wear a costume.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2.03
Twenty-second posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another spectacular article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.3. Silver team followed up the season opening loss with a solid win (5-2) against league newcomer, Teal. The victory came despite playing against White team's goaltender (arguably the 3rd best net-minder in the league behind Silver's tandem), against which Silver only managed 2 markers just three days prior.
A few familiar faces were over on the Teal side (some of the 2018 Purple team) along with a couple new faces. Overall, Teal made a good impression during their Silver team debut regarding the overall demeanor, especially in comparison to some previous teams entrance into the league.
In recent memory, any team new to the league has come in with a fire lit under their rear ends and visions of eternal glory, domination, and a league championship easily within their grasp. It only takes about 2.5 weeks of play (funny enough that's the same time it takes to play each team once) for those visions, dreams, and aspirations to be forever crushed into oblivion. This dream crushing has often led to frustration which in turn shifted to anger that manifested itself on the ice in the form of complete "gooning-it-up" and overall lack of respect for the fellow league members. Only time will tell if Teal can manage to keep it respectable despite getting the shit kicked out of them for 37 more games.

3) Chris Schneider (this reporter thought he may have lost his skates)
Silver opens a home and home with Gold in the season's first PRECIOUS METALS GAME starting at RALSTON TONIGHT at 8:45 PM. Gold will obviously be looking for revenge after ending last regular season poorly against Silver. Silver claimed the all-important Superior Metal status, which is all the Gold team members have been thinking about for the past 6 months. If you don't recall how that game went, please take a trip down memory lane and read HERE. If you think the O/U for tonight is a bit high, it is still 4.5 goals less than what was scored during the previous contest.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2.02
Twenty-first posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another spectacular article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.2. Silver team opened up the new season with a loss, albeit a loss with promise. The score was White 7 to Silver's 2, but the game score told little of the action that took place on the ice.
There was clearly some rust for some but Silver had plenty of opportunities to make the contest much closer on both the offense and defensive ends. Playing slightly short-handed of some regulars (notable healthy scratches were Mitch "#4" Staiger and Kyle "Facebook Party" Korbel), Silver struggled to bury easy chances and gave up too many point blank chances to White. There were some bright spots out there including some added youth from a couple Midland students, but in the end the mistakes were too many for Silver to overcome. When asked about his new team's performance, Player/Owner Jim DeRouchey said, "No one has ever missed the playoffs after the season's first game." Considering all teams have already clinched a playoff spot by paying the entry fee, there hasn't been a truer statement spoken in BPHL's history.
Stars of the Game
1) Kyle Korbel (for bringing about the idea of Uber Kids - not for actual game play)
2) Ben Maenner (scored slowest goal recorded in BPHL history)
3) Dustin Gangelhoff (first tally of Silver season)
Silver (with free hotdogs dancing in their heads) have their first Thursday match up at RALSTON on 24 October at 9:45 PM. This will be the first contest for Teal against Silver in the history of BPHL. There have been many questions raised about the selection of the team name, especially since the reveal of the Teal team uniforms, which could only be described as "baby blue." Also, current league teams should have been considered when coming up with the name, if not for simple purpose of following the trend of selecting a precious metal for your team.
A number of years ago, the team formerly known as Yellow insisted that they be called Gold and started adapting "Au" as their team symbol. Some would say that the team formerly known as Gray quickly switched to be named Silver order to follow in Gold's footsteps, but in reality it was to mock them. There has been much encouragement for other teams to join in the mockery of Gold by also changing their names to precious metals that would fit their color. Just two years ago Cobalt burst onto the scene changing from Blue team. Other teams simply didn't show the resolve or initiative to follow, but Red team could switch to Iron, (former) Green team to copper, White team to Platinum, Black team to Manganese. Maybe someday the rest of the BPHL will figure out why being a precious metal brings intrigue, chaos, excitement, rivalry, and nothing but all things good into our world.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2.01
Twentieth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another spectacular article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.1. Silver team flamed out early in the 2018-19 BPHL playoffs, dropping a heartbreaker to Red by a score of 13-1 (or something like that). Does that mean a poor start to 2019-20 season? "Not at all," according to an unnamed source close to the club.
After many years of not having "FINAL CUT" privileges on their own roster, Silver Owner and GM Jim "The Punisher" DeRouchey and Jeff "Ketosexual" Evans have put together a roster that only involves personnel which earned their approval. After several years of being able to shift the blame from themselves to the previous league Commissioners, Brian "Never met a Sailor Jerry bottle I couldn't finish" Maher and Mat "Slattery Design" Slattery, the spotlight has now turned directly to the faces of the Silver front office. Will it be met with heavy criticism or mountains of praise? Only time will tell.
Silver will have their chance to prove themselves early against a White team that returns many players from last season with one exception. Brad "Char-Buff" Klaus has left the poignant, familiar smell of the White dressing room for LESS green pastures as he joins up with Red, hoping for a completely different kind of high - a BPHL Championship.
Stars of the Game (2018-19 Playoff)

2) Mat Slattery
3) Mark Marta
