Twenty-first posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another spectacular article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.2. Silver team opened up the new season with a loss, albeit a loss with promise. The score was White 7 to Silver's 2, but the game score told little of the action that took place on the ice.
There was clearly some rust for some but Silver had plenty of opportunities to make the contest much closer on both the offense and defensive ends. Playing slightly short-handed of some regulars (notable healthy scratches were Mitch "#4" Staiger and Kyle "Facebook Party" Korbel), Silver struggled to bury easy chances and gave up too many point blank chances to White. There were some bright spots out there including some added youth from a couple Midland students, but in the end the mistakes were too many for Silver to overcome. When asked about his new team's performance, Player/Owner Jim DeRouchey said, "No one has ever missed the playoffs after the season's first game." Considering all teams have already clinched a playoff spot by paying the entry fee, there hasn't been a truer statement spoken in BPHL's history.
Stars of the Game
1) Kyle Korbel (for bringing about the idea of Uber Kids - not for actual game play)
2) Ben Maenner (scored slowest goal recorded in BPHL history)
3) Dustin Gangelhoff (first tally of Silver season)
Silver (with free hotdogs dancing in their heads) have their first Thursday match up at RALSTON on 24 October at 9:45 PM. This will be the first contest for Teal against Silver in the history of BPHL. There have been many questions raised about the selection of the team name, especially since the reveal of the Teal team uniforms, which could only be described as "baby blue." Also, current league teams should have been considered when coming up with the name, if not for simple purpose of following the trend of selecting a precious metal for your team.
A number of years ago, the team formerly known as Yellow insisted that they be called Gold and started adapting "Au" as their team symbol. Some would say that the team formerly known as Gray quickly switched to be named Silver order to follow in Gold's footsteps, but in reality it was to mock them. There has been much encouragement for other teams to join in the mockery of Gold by also changing their names to precious metals that would fit their color. Just two years ago Cobalt burst onto the scene changing from Blue team. Other teams simply didn't show the resolve or initiative to follow, but Red team could switch to Iron, (former) Green team to copper, White team to Platinum, Black team to Manganese. Maybe someday the rest of the BPHL will figure out why being a precious metal brings intrigue, chaos, excitement, rivalry, and nothing but all things good into our world.
Remember, Dickie Dunn wrote this, so it's gotta be true
