Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another mediocre article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.20. Silver gave Black their biggest challenge of the season since their first game loss to Gold. Silver jumped out to a sizable lead before Jeff "Iron Man" Hoggan took the game into his own hands, putting his team on his back and carrying them to victory. A few items of note, 9 goals is the lowest offensive output for Black with the exception of playing against a Billy Wilson-less Gold team. The 7 goals allowed is also a season high for Black, except for those two games where Red was credited with 8 goals (likely a Slattery input "error").
In other BPHL news, Red beat Gold in a shootout thanks to a superb effort of the subs from Silver - so in a way, Silver went .500 on the night.
In other Silver team news, the whole new attitude of one particular player has captured the attention of the entire league, especially the officials. Amidst piling up a whole new rash of penalty minutes in just the last couple games, some people are asking, is he just a bully? His reputation is one that scares the bejesus outta everybody. This young man has had a very trying sophomore season, what with the litigation, the notoriety, his subsequent deportation to Canada, and that country's refusal to accept him. Well, that's more than most 29 year-olds could handle. Yes of course we are talking about New Mitch. The news is out that Mark Marta put a personal bounty on New Mitch's head for tonight's game. That's $100 of his own money for the first guy that takes New Mitch out of the game. Marta may be disappointed to realize that New Mitch only plays on Mondays. Mark your calendars for February 17th.

Silver is back in action against RED tonight at RALSTON at 8:30 PM. These teams are as evenly matched as they come in the BPHL. It's anyone's game out on the ice tonight. It will likely come down to a couple key missed calls by the league's head official - who has forgotten his glasses for the entire season so far.

This is the thirty-eighth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another mediocre article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.19. Just as this reporter suspected, Silver fell for the trap game and lost to White last Monday by a score of 4 - 7 with one disallowed goal. Paul Bednarz just chuckled to himself after going bar-down glove and completing a wicked snipe-celly and then seeing the head of BPHL officiating stare blankly back at him as play was not stopped. Had the goal been called properly, it likely would have led Silver to a furious comeback victory. Instead, it led to a debilitating loss.
Player/coach/GM Jim Derouchey was also seen trying to rally the team, skating haphazardly around White's goalie shouting things like, "Suzanne sucks pussy!" Evidently these taunts did not affect the young goal-tender as Silver would have hoped - they definitely did not have a back-up goalie, should he have decided to start a line brawl and get ejected from the game.

Silver is back in action against BLACK tonight at RALSTON at 7:30 PM. The top team has had some injuries lately and only been able to dress 6 or 7 skaters. Being shorthanded has not led to any faltering as they have rattled off 20 wins in a row since their opening game loss against Gold. Silver will hope they are being overlooked and bring them to their knees playing an old-fashioned brand of hockey, or "old-time hockey" like Eddie Shore.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2.18
This is the thirty-seventh posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another mediocre article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.18. Silver dropped another close game last Thursday in the PRECIOUS METAL rivalry series by a score of 6 - 10. Things looked promising with veteran goal tender Bill Wilson back in the lineup for Gold. Silver did not hesitate to exploit the weakness, taking a quick 4 - 0 lead. Gold however returned the favor fast and furious as they rattled of at least 8 straight and ended up holding on for the victory. Silver did score some late goals that turned out to be quite meaningful for some despite not affecting the actual game outcome.
The loss snapped Silver's 5-game unbeaten streak (franchise high) yet Silver remains all alone in third place holding a five point lead over White, only two points back from their Golden rival. Silver is likely to start another streak considering their fantastic front office leadership and unlimited talent depth. The Run for One is looking more and more realistic with every game. Also, Black team got the measles and is out for the rest of the season, so as of right now, Silver is IN THE PLAYOFFS!

Silver is back in action against WHITE tonight at RALSTON at 8:45 PM. This looks to be a bit of a trap game for Silver, which has struggled against White but may find it hard to not look past tonight's game for the impending forfeit victory against the measles-riddled Black team. Despite the season being well past the half-way mark, this will only be the third game between Silver and White, the previous two being split in essentially even affairs.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2.17
This is the thirty-sixth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another mediocre article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.17. It's been awhile since the last article and Silver team has played three games during that span. The last two games were fairly uneventful and the team's top player(s) didn't feel the need to play - taking advantage of the soft back to back games against Teal by taking a well deserved vacation. Silver won handily with their eyes closed (it would seem) by scores of 9 - 5 and 10 - 3. The first game was a nail-biter that went down to the last seconds with Silver prevailing by a score of 4 - 3.
The game was nearly closer than that as Head BPHL Official, Mark Harral had a rare moment of bad judgment, calling a goal for Red that clearly never crossed the goal line. Obviously he had a good look at the play, standing near the far blue line, but sometimes even the best make mistakes. The good thing is, the BPHL officiating crew's motto is always, "Get the call right." After several minutes of discussion and replay review, the goal was taken off the board and ended up keeping Red down by just enough. Big kudos to the BPHL camera crews for getting the right angle to show what really happened in the Silver net area.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2.16
This is the thirty-fifth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another scintillating article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.16. After an odd cancellation of the much anticipated 5th edition of the precious metals game, Silver moved on to another match-up with Teal. Obviously this game was added to the schedule extremely late, leading Silver to be short-handed. As they often do, Silver persevered through adversity and came out VICTORIOUS!
New Mitch was clearly feeling fresh out there as he flew around the ice with ease. With the extra ice, team owner Jim D was quoted after the game, "Lotta ice tonight. That pace was perfect for my game." Griff Watson turned away most of the shots he saw with ease, including a full ice shot on a kick save, that was a beauty. Teal's net minder had a bit more trouble - luckily only letting in seven goals despite Silver's 79 quality scoring chances.
After the game, it was a cause for celebration as the entire Silver team rung in the New Year together, they are that tight knit, a true example to all BPHL teams. Unfortunately, only a few could be rounded up for the team photo.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2.15
This is the thirty-fourth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another absolutely fabulous article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.15. Black team gave more than extra effort on the ice last Thursday, barely edging out Silver by a score of 12 - 2. Clearly the game was not out of reach for Silver as Black felt the need to be floating guys on the far blue line in hopes of getting more breakaways to get that game-icing goal. No one can fault them on a lack of effort.
At one tense moment in the game (Black was ONLY up 8 - 1), Marlon Bertier was flying around in his team's offensive zone when he was met with slight contact in the lower body, impeding his path. Bertier immediately started shoving the Silver player up near the face, clearly thinking that, as God's gift to hockey, he shouldn't be touched on the ice. The Silver player laughed in his face and was heard saying, "If I hit you, trust me you'll know." Bertier must have left the ice after that because he seemed to be invisible the rest of the game.
On to bonus league coverage as Red battled Teal in the night cap. Teal had a short bench and was up against it before recruiting two Silver players to help out. Although it isn't for certain, this seems to have tipped the scales for Teal who routed Red by a score of 12 - 5. Some say this was the payback for Red using two Gold players against Silver when they already had enough skaters (illegal subs) and ended up beating Silver by a slim margin. Will the Red team captain learn his lesson or will he set himself up to lose to Teal all season long? (Teal has 3 wins on the season - all against Red).

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 2.14
This is the thirty-third posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another absolutely fabulous article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 2.14. Silver shocked the world Monday edging out White by a score of 6 - 4 (with a needless empty netter). Some goals become more important than others (the O/U was 9.5) and that empty net goal had some people celebrating and others saying, "You've got to be kidding me." The game finished just in time to be featured on SVP's popular segment, "Bad Beats."

Jumping out to an early lead has paid major dividends this season for Silver and Monday night was no different. Bagging an early goal to take a 1 - 0 lead, Silver was able to hold off White all night, never falling behind. The loss could be squarely placed on the usually stellar shoulders of White goalie Quinn White who let in a couple of suspect goals, including the game winner.
It wasn't all puppies and roses though, Silver fought through major adversity, including the potential costly penalty late in the third. White's Ben Maenner tried to wriggle free from Silver's bruising defenseman, Chris "Don't Tread On Me" Schneider (who hails from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) but was mercilessly hauled down, resulting in a minor penalty for Silver. Silver had no problem answering the bell and Paul "Go Beavers" Bednarz eventually tallied a selfish, empty net goal with 7 seconds remaining. Clearly, Paul is behind on meeting the incentive clauses in his contract (50 goals in 36 games earns him an extra double barrel hot dog at Winners).
Stars of the Game
1) Griffith Watson
2) "New" Mitch Killian
3) Chris Schneider
Silver plays their first of another home and home versus Black tonight at RALSTON at 8:30 PM. After the victory against White on Monday and the impending game versus Black, maybe we'll finally find out if Michael Jackson was telling the truth when he said, "It doesn't matter if you're black or white."
Remember, Dickie Dunn wrote this, so it's gotta be true
