Nineteenth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to a miraculous article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 19. Silver team clearly had a fire lit under them after the poor showing against White. Don't tell them the Final Precious Metal game of the regular season is meaningless.
The game was a back and forth for most of the game - each goalie making some spectacular saves. Somehow each team managed to muster up some even more spectacular shots with the game reaching a score of 13 - 12 favoring the clearly superior precious metal, Silver. The question is, how did they get there? That my friend is one helluva tale.
Let me paint you a word picture: Throughout the game the flashes of silver and gold jerseys flying up and down the milky ice was akin to three or even four dimensional poetry in motion. The brisk, icy air was so thick with intensity and ripe with competitive tension, you could cut it with a skate blade. Rubber was being launched from every direction, snow spray was fluttering about, accidental-like, as if on a breeze. Shrill whistles and goal lamps filled the arena early and often as the game entered the final minutes. Silver team once again found themselves in a bit of a hole, down four goals with little precious time remaining. Then it happened, the comeback that inspired the San Jose Sharks to NEVER SAY DIE. With not a second more than 6 minutes to play Silver team let the BPHL world know that THEY WOULD NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT! THEY WOULD NOT VANISH WITHOUT A FIGHT! THEY WERE GOING TO LIVE ON. THEY WERE GOING TO SURVIVE! TONIGHT WE CELEBRATE OUR PRECIOUS METALS GAME VICTORY!
Just like that, Silver team rallied and scored five unanswered goals, including a game tying goal with an empty net, and the game winner with less than 10 seconds remaining. It was done. The regular season finished on the highest of high notes - a Precious Metals game victory via miraculous comeback. Well done, Silver. The BPHL salutes you for your effort, resiliency, and resolve. Good luck in the postseason.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 18
Eighteenth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to a mediocre article of Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 18. Silver team was manhandled against White in one of the softest "games" of the BPHL season (if you can call it that). The auxiliary ice was again the venue, but it provided no lift for Silver team, who appeared to have other things on their minds.
Silver team was shutout for the first time this season by the score of 0 - 6. Which is ironically the same score posted on the BPHL website for Silver's first shutout of an opponent (the lowly Purple squad) just a couple weeks ago. Maybe this will act as big wake-up call for Silver as the playoffs are suddenly looming.
One may try and blame the goal-tending as a "payback" moment for Matt Slattery (playing in net for Silver), to get back at Paul "Put that lumber in his teeth - let 'em know yer there" Bednarz for their mid-season altercation. It's certainly hard to blame the goalie when your team fails to score. Silver will try and use their final regular season contest to address these issues and be ready for the post-season.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 17
Seventeenth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another stupendous and phenomenal article Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 17. Silver team fell to Black in one of the toughest fought battles of the BPHL season. There was certainly a carnival-like atmosphere in the building. The game was played on the auxiliary rink where the ice is faster, the boards are harder, and the fans make more noise (possibly because of the ceiling height).
Silver team was coming into the game riding a massive three-game winning streak - longest of the season. Black team also had a similar streak of 34 consecutive unbeaten games (in regulation). Clearly something had to give in this contest of the unstoppable force versus the immovable object. Despite all the fanfare, neither team ever wavered or lost focus, even down to the last second of the game when the victors smashed a clap-bomb off two posts into the net to finish their self-coined "throat stomping" of any and all league teams who dare to challenge them. It was quite a sight to see, let me tell you.
Silver team was a little light on the bench with only nine skaters and aside from allowing three goals in one shift to former NHL/AHL/DEL/CCHA/BCHL superstar Jeff "HULK-A-MANIA" Hoggan, it was a hard fought, back and forth game (except for the scoring which was all Black until the third period). Despite all the scoring chances, Kirk "Rubber Eradicator" Thompson kept nearly all the pucks out, as the game finished 7 - 4 in favor of Black. Two key parts of the Silver roster may have been to blame for the loss. Chris "Double Pepperoni" Schneider and Jake "I've Got Shingles" Ortmeyer were listed as healthy scratches. One Silver fan let Double Pep know of his/her disgust (see picture).

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 16
Sixteenth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another spectacular and wonderful article Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 16. Silver team played by the playbook they wrote, falling behind early before storming back for the victory. A rare 7:15 game may have thrown off the squad as they faced Red at Ralston last Thursday, but as previously mentioned, they recovered quite nicely.
Red team has had some losses this year in personnel which has ultimately led to a mid to late-season skid. The I am Legend zombie has somehow been killed and Mark "I never get tired or pass" Marta has missed some games due to personal obligations (some may involve breaking Charbuff's hand - it is common knowledge that those two do not get along). This has left Red severely shorthanded and even the spectacular goaltending of Slattery cannot keep them afloat in most cases. Silver again found themselves down 0 - 2 before knotting the score and eventually taking the lead for good.
A deep bench again gave an advantage to Silver. It was clear that players were being more efficient and using up more oxygen than normal during their shifts. One player, Dustin Gangelhoff was on the verge of a career night, nearly netting a hattrick. Instead he fumbled it around the front (of the net) on multiple goal mouth passes and went to the bench feeling shame. The goal wasn't needed for the win as Silver won 7-4 which brought the normally sure-handed Gangelhoff into the spotlight....for not scoring. Some authorities think he may have had the under. More on that story as it develops.
Stars of the Game
1) Griffith Watson
2) Mike Klingbeil
3) Ruma

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 15
Fifteenth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another fascinating article Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 15. Silver team finished the second game in a home and home series on the road against the cellar-dwelling Purple team at Ralston arena this past Monday. The game was a much lower scoring (especially for the losers) then the most recent contest at Baxter. Silver blanked Purple 7 - 0 (website reporting the score incorrectly) and got its first shutout of the season (3rd in the league).
The game was a slow and steady bludgeoning of the weaker foe and some took offense to Silver "running up the score." Considering it was only 6 - 0 late in the third period, Mitch "4" Staiger was quoted as saying, "We aren't capable of running up a score - have you seen our roster? We lose our breath tying our skates. Take a look a the Black team if you want to see no mercy. The average margin of victory is about 19 goals. Give or take." There may have been another angle at play. As some people in the sports world know, some goals become more important than others. There was no reason to let a sloppy late goal turn into a bad beat for people on the "right side" (which was Silver -5.5).
Mario also made is gripes known as Jeff Harris tried to split the Purple defense late in the third. Luckily, he escaped with his head. Careful fellas, we all have to go to work tomorrow. Griff Watson continued his impressive streak against Purple by stopping all the shots with relative ease to earn 1st star honors in back to back games.
Stars of the Game
1) Griffith Watson
2) Mike Klingbeil
3) Adam Collette
Silver finally gets an early game tonight against Red, opening at RALSTON on Thursday, 11 April at 7:15 PM. It is very interesting how Red seems to never play a late game. Silver team might get an investigative reporter on the job to question the league administrators. Stay tuned.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vol: 14
Fourteenth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to another fascinating article Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vol: 14. Silver team was back in action last Thursday taking on the cellar-dwelling Purple team at Baxter arena. To the untrained eye, it may have looked like Purple was going to give Silver a scare as they jumped out to an early 2 - 0 lead. The veteran team did not even blink, knowing that Griff was about to buckle down and slam the door.

To the untrained eye, it may have looked like Purple was going to give Silver a scare as they jumped out to an early 2 - 0 lead. The veteran team did not even blink, knowing that Griff was about to buckle down and slam the door.
Silver rattled off 11 straight goals and ended up cruising to an easy 11 - 3 victory. It wasn't completely without incident though as "Mario" let several howitzers fly from any and everywhere, sending players of Silver and Purple alike diving for the corner (and still not knowing if they were safe!). New Mitch also had a bit of a tumble and looked as if he may have been sniped from the rafters. Nobody blamed him though as everyone in the building knew he was feeling the pressure to impress his old coach who was evaluating him from the bench.
It was certainly a stat padding night for Silver as markers came from several players including another SICK tip from newcomer Golden Griffin, Taylor "Above the" Law. The full bench played to Silver's strength as many of the "hefty" veterans were given a well deserved rest, at the most rigorous time in the team schedule.

Hockey News! Special Edition Vols: 12 and 13
Twelfth and thirteenth posting of the news articles from the Beer and Pretzel Hockey League written by the beat writer that covers the league. He calls himself Dickie Dunn - his true identity is unknown.
Greetings hockey fans and welcome to Hockey News BPHL: Special Edition Vols: 12 and 13. This is the first multi-volume edition, so get excited!
This reporter was on another road trip and missed the start time of last nights contest due to the time change. There was nothing much to report on from Silver's home contest against Gold last Thursday. Gold played hard and scored many goals, keeping Silver just out of reach the entire game. Charbuff and Big Country haven't been allowed to referee any games, currently serving suspensions for too many penalty calls. It's probably for the better as Charbuff and Chris Schneider didn't exactly see eye to eye the last time Silver played White.
Gold edged out Silver by a score of 12 - 9, a far cry from the previous match up - hope you didn't take the over! Dejected from their first home loss, Silver went into a complete tailspin and dropped an absolute heart breaker (8 - 1) to White in last night's contest, again on home ice. Paul "I just turned 29" Bednarz and Jeff "If you buy that age, I've got a bridge to sell you" Evans were clearly still hung to the gills from their weekend celebration at Omaha's finest local eatery and watering hole, Finnegan's. If there was a crane game there, I'm sure it was emptied by night's end. Here's a big Happy Birthday to Paul and Jeff from Dickie Dunn.
